The very novel book boasts of a very unique and never-before-heard-of plot. Sidney Sheldon has the art of plotting the most unexpected plots and presenting them in the most appealing manner. The book mostly revolves around Leslie Stewert, Oliver Russell and Dana Evans. While reading the book, one grows up to assume that the protagonist of the book is Leslie, a powerful, independent and witty woman who would never lie low and accept the wrongs done to her. Oliver ditches Leslie after many promises of love and future to become the most powerful man on the world - the president of the States. Leslie, who pretends to be happy for him, in reality, seeks vengeance. She builds up a massive media empire with an ulterior motive - to bring about the fall of one of the most successful presidents of America. The book also narrates the past and present of WTN reporter - Dana Evans. As one reads about Dana, liking her becomes inevitable. A kind yet bold woman, she is nothing but amiable and the real protagonist of the book, as the evening of the book reveals. the story of the novel turns upside down in just the last few chapters, as everything that was expected turns into a hazy mist, leaving the readers wondering in amazement, their mouths agape. One of the best novels ever written.
The book spins the story of two men - Kane and Abel, right from their birth to their death - a story spanning sixty long years! Though born on the same day, their lifestyles turn out to be very different. While William Kane leads a happy, peaceful life in security, Abel stuggles almost all his life. The only storm in William's life was his father's untimely death, but for Abel, the story was very, very different. Forced out of his nation, deprived of his inheritance, escaping from death camps and the very death of everyone he ever loved, was a life Abel Rosnovoski, formerly Wladek, led. It is a long time before he comes to the US and starts working in a restaurant. While william rises in his banking career, Abel, too grows up to own a successful chain of hotels worldwide. What the two men do not realise is, the very reason they are alive, is because of each other. As the men turn their backs on the truth and began hating each other, they began plotting. The stronger the hatred grew, the more dangerous the plotting was.
In my own words, i would say: A very exceptional book indeed.
